Reflections on OneLove
Carla, you went along to OneLove this year with a few other women from Cornerstone. Can you tell us what OneLove is?
OneLove is a women's conference run by Katoomba Christian Convention (KCC), whose purpose is to bring Christians of different denominations together to teach them more of the Bible. It’s been operating since 1903.
What was the topic on this year, and what was something that you learnt?
This year the topic was Overcoming Complacency. The keynote speaker was Blair Linne, who gave two very powerful talks. The first talk was based on Luke 15:11-32 and titled The Father’s Joy. She reminded me in such a powerful way through the parable of the prodigal son how much our good God loves me and how much he has lavished on me even though I’m so unworthy. Immorality and morality are the two ways, Blair explained, that we can run from the Father. the younger brother chose to live in an immoral way while the older brother thought too highly of his morality. It was a great reminder that both brothers had separated themselves from the father, but the father just loved them. Blair also reminded us that Jesus is the perfect brother; he came to love us and to rescue us. The second talk was The Blessed Father, on Ephesians 1:3-6. This was also a great talk. You can download the KCC One app to listen to it and others.
How were you encouraged by OneLove?
I’ve always been encouraged by the OneLove talks over the years. I’m also encouraged by the women that buy a ticket and come along. It costs to go—it costs time and money—but it’s worth it. Seeing hundreds of women from all ages and cultures gather to sing and listen is a great encouragement. I love going with my daughter, my daughter-in-laws, and friends from church and from life.
How were you challenged by OneLove?
The reminder not to rely on the grace of yesterday for today—my Christian walk is ongoing, and I won’t retire from it. Living for Christ and sharing His love for humanity is a privilege. It’ll look different as my circumstances change but God opens His arms and graciously includes me in His plan. I shouldn’t take this for granted.
