Meet Kevin and Hannah

Meet Kevin and Hannah—Cornerstone Anglican Church Box Hill

Kevin and Hannah, tell us about your family.

Our family consists of four—ourselves and our two little children. Along with our parents, Hannah has three sisters, two of whom have little children of their own, and Kevin has two younger brothers. Our extended family lives in other parts of Sydney so we cherish the time we get to spend together and enjoy the energy and liveliness that comes with the diversity of ages.

What does a typical week look like for you?

Our weeks can vary quite a bit, but there are a few constants that we can depend on: Kevin making coffee on his Prosumer machine, Hannah working towards a triathlon or doing Physie, the two of us navigating the joys and challenges of parenting little ones, and, above all, time spent with God. We both attend a growth group and are actively involved in our church, serving behind the scenes throughout the week and on a Sunday. Kevin works full time in sales. Each week looks different for him and involves travel in and out of Sydney. Hannah spends part of her time caring for the kids and the other part being a primary teacher.

What do you enjoy doing together as a family on a day off?

When we get a day off, we like to take the kids outdoors for a walk and read through a stack of picture books from the library. Good food and coffee is a must, as is some quiet time in the afternoon and maybe even a nap! We’ve recently been teaching our son to ride a bicycle without training wheels, and we’ve been delving into recipes by Andy Hearnden. The cinnamon scrolls are a favourite! A lot of our days off are filled with time with family and friends which brings plenty of love and laughter. We look forward to the day when the four of us can all go bike riding together.

What are the things you appreciate the most about living in the Box Hill area?

We live in a neighbouring suburb to Box Hill. We appreciate the seemingly limitless access to facilities and the proximity to bush and farmland. We enjoy visiting our friends who live in Box Hill and spending time in the numerous parks there. We look forward to working in the new community of Box Hill through the work we do at Cornerstone Anglican Church Box Hill.

How long have you been Christians, and who was it that first told you about Jesus?

We both grew up in Christian families and have come to love Christ through different paths. Kevin has grown in his Christian maturity over time, as each life stage challenged his identity in Christ. Hannah committed to Jesus in the latter part of high school through the testimony of her older sister and time spent reflecting on Titus 2:11–14.

What has encouraged you from God’s word recently?

We’ve both been encouraged by the beginning of John’s Gospel as we delved deeply into those first chapters. It’s been great to talk about it at growth group and see who Jesus is anew. There is always something new to learn, and we’ve been encouraged by how Jesus’ early disciples responded to his calls to follow him.

What are your hopes for your family and your children?

Our hopes for our family is that we would  grow in our love and knowledge of Christ and be on mission for him. For our children, we pray that they will cherish Jesus above all else and find contentment in what God provides, using it for his glory.

Is there an amusing fact about you that you’d be happy to share?

Kevin has become a collector of nicknames amongst his friends, each trying to outdo the last. Kevin’s background is Egyptian and wants to take his family to Egypt one day.
